Termination of the Rural Lynx/Maritime Bus Pilot Project

The Southwest New Brunswick Transit Authority Inc (SWNBTAI) operating as Rural Lynx announces the end of the Charlotte County transportation Pilot Project. Maritime Bus, the contracted bus operator, will end return bus service from St. Stephen to Saint John, effective May 31, 2019.

The SWNBTAI Board commends the Province of New Brunswick, The Regional Development Corporation, The Southwest New Brunswick Service Commission and the Municipalities of Grand Manan, St. Stephen, Saint Andrews, St. George. Blacks Harbour, McAdam and Harvey for their financial and organizational support.

The Rural Lynx/Maritime Bus provided over 3200 trips to residents of Charlotte County and beyond, during the 20 months of operation. The board would like to thank the customers who have made use of the service during this Pilot Project. The bus service provided an important and significant transportation option for residents needing health, family and travel connections. The service has averaged approximately 5 passengers per day but requires roughly 25 passengers per day to be self-sustaining. The SWNBTAI Board regrets that those residents will no longer have this bus service.

The Pilot Project identified many diverse community transportation needs. The bus service to Saint John is only one of the needed solutions. It has been a rewarding opportunity to be able to offer a public bus transportation option to those who needed it.
